If you use rsync the backup target has to be able to keep the Linux fileattributes. Otherwise the files will get incorrect fileattributes during restore. You either have to use nfs or use the tar backup mode. See also here. |

I just wanted to add the error message on this page and detected it's already explained there but a link was missing 😢 I just fixed this. |

There exists a small script in my repository which executes exactly the same fileattribute test which is used by raspiBackup. Just call it and make the local and remote file attributes to be identical. But as far s I know (I'm no Samba expert) Samba in general does not support this. If you find a way to configure Samba to pass the test please let me know 😃 |

thank you, I've re-read the documentation carefully and I now understand that rsync on a cifs mounted remote volume is supported only via a local ext3/4 image |

I'm trying to setup automated backup for a number of Pi's on a TrueNAS file server.
My strategy is to have a dataset for each pi, a dedicated NAS user for authentication and to export the dataset as an SMB share.
The TrueNAS SMB configuration options are pretty detailed.
I'm getting the
error message but I'm not sure what kind of file attributes it is referring to.
Is there a way to get a more verbose description?
Thx in advance!
