One issue and one question

The issue is that the portals do not seem to work on leaves. The question: is there a distance limit to how far the portal gun can shoot?

That's not an issue, they aren't meant to shoot on leaves as leaves aren't opaque blocks. To answer your question yes there is a limit, however I don't know off of the top of my head
