Currently Passwords can only be changed by Admins manually.
It was proposed in SpeckiJ#1 to automate this issue and e.g. develop an automated tools similar to common "Forgotten Password" Functionality in other Web Applications.
Current State-of-Discussion:
Pros:
Less "work" for the admins
Cons:
Additional contact data might need to be stored (e.g. Email address)
"Password Reset" Feature would be on new page and not on common Wiki etc. -> not easily found by the common user

Another very big pro: Users don't have to meet admin in person. Just yesterday I created a new account with a password chosen by me and sent username + password via WhatsApp because a new Fachschaftlerin desperately needed an account. It would've been a lot better if I could've send her a link with username + some token encoded in it so that she could set it up herself.
