System performance monitoring on a single node
===============================================
1. Prerequisites:
- Install docker
2. Download & start Grafana container for visualization:
docker run -d -p 3000:3000 --name grafana grafana/grafana
3. Download & start Prometheus
docker run --network host -p 9090:9090 -v {DSSN Directory}/config/prometheus/prometheus.yml:/etc/prometheus/prometheus.yml prom/prometheus
The --network host option allows the container to share the networking namespace
with the host
4. Configuration for the Grafana.
- Login to the Grafana server
Enter the following URL to your browser: http://[mgmt ip]:3000
username/password: admin/admin
- Add data source.
Settings->Data Sources, choose Prometheus, Click Save&Test.
The defaut parameters would work.
- Import Dashboard.
Click the + sign, choose import, click Upload JSON file to import any existing
RAMCloud/DSSN dashboard under {DSSN Directory}/config/grafana/
5. Exporting system related statistics to the Prometheus server
Follow the instruction from the Prometheus website
https://prometheus.io/docs/guides/node-exporter/#node-exporter-metrics
For load and memory utilization statistics only, use the following command to start the node exporter
node_exporter --collector.disable-defaults --collector.loadavg --collector.meminfo
