I think this has been discussed before, and I'm not sure about the exact process that would be required for this, but using the alpine edge url as the SRC_URI without a proper gentoo mirror leads to fetch errors on a regular basis. This could be mitigated if there was some way to mirror the alpine builds.

I think this may be related to a deeper issue, which is that libc is not factored into binary package names. This has caused issues in the past with trying to have shared distfiles between a gnu install and a musl install. The change in naming conventions would only be needed for binary packages. Not sure whether this is the right place to discuss.
