Validation Error when running examples

I have been seeing validation errors when starting the wgpu examples. Some of the examples continue to run and bring up a window and show expected content for the selected demo, but others like bunnymark bring up the window and no bunnies... oops I forgot the question, anyone also have their monitors in portrait mode and does this happen for you?

running :

cargo run --example boids

produces the following output:

There's a bug in winit.

• Erroneous WindowEvent::Resized sent on app startup rust-windowing/winit#2094
• Most of the samples have Vulkan swapchain validation errors #2286
