Ideally, which of these are shown would be configurable as a user setting, but a good 'default' could be showing the author or booster of the filtered post.
Alternatively, they could be set differently for each filter, but that (on the surface) seems more complicated to implement.
Motivation
If I filter a keyword, but don't hide it completely, it's because there are situations where I am ok with seeing posts with that keyword, but I want the choice of if, when, or where I look at the post.
Currently, I am only told "filtered" and which filter the post tripped.
Knowing more about the post - most importantly who made it, but also the content warnings and tags - allows me to make an informed decision about viewing it.
Say I filter out puppies, because I don't like dogs, but im okay with seeing @[email protected]'s posts with puppies, because they're fox puppies. Or I might want to view a post, because it's also tagged #foxes.
This is a slightly contrived example, but I'm hoping it gets the point across - there are obviously more 'serious' use cases. This could possibly done with more complicated filters, but the thing is to just give the user the information they need to make a choice.
This is partly implemented in the Phanpy client, and is a great addition there, where it shows the booster or author of a filtered post.
I've also suggested this for upstream mastodon as mastodon#33457 (and I hope I'm not breaking a taboo by suggesting it downstream as well).
