The purpose of this post is... asking for some light on how this is implemented, how it works on doxbox-x, I'm really puzzled. I've been trying to make MIDI sound work for Doom on several virtual machine emulators, most didn't have sound at all, and I tried all combinations of dma irq and so on, I even read the sound blaster manual on this, literally been at it for the last 4 days.
I finally came across dosbox-x, and everything works, both sfx and midi music, out of the box with the defaults. So I was really curious and read through the config file, I searched for midi and sound and blaster and whatnot. The conclusion was that the emulation is implemented internally on dosbox-x itself, since I don't see a drivers folder for the soundblaster in the Z drive.
Can I make sound work on other vm software such as utm/qemu and virtualbox and so on? And how is it that it works on doxbox-x? I even thought of going through the source code, but my C is not as good, and still in the process of learning it a + 8086 assembly.
Can you guys guide me to some documents or maybe explain a little bit where I can look and a bit more of what this is about? I'm totally puzzled... I guess there must be some technical references on this topic, to get me started and get me going? For now I'll keep at C and 8086 assembly...
Thanks,
