Currently ISPF has no support for creating member aliases from the panels. One must use the non-intuitive TSO RENAME pds(member) pds(alias) ALIAS command.

It would be another competitive difference if PDSEGEN had a line command to create aliases of a member. Research would be needed on how to handle earlier generations of the base member.

Doing an ALIAS for the base member makes sense - not sure it works for generations - this will require research as you said.

Will also have to update PDSEGENI to report back on aliases so that PDSEGEN can report on them.

The PDS command supports creating member aliases but i've never found a good use for them and not sure how useful it would be without IBM providing some native facilities - perhaps FAMS would allow assigning/removing an ALIAS to a mg and having that alias remain with the specific mg.
