Heya,
I wanted to use the "Cheat Search"-Mechanic from Retroarch first on my Retroid Pocket 2 with Retroarch 1.8.4 (gpSP v0.91 6a59c71) but sadly found out that the Cheat Search isn't starting. Checking the gpSP-Doc page on Retroarch's website and it states that Retroarch-Cheats are supported.
So I tested it on my PC with Retroarch 1.9.8 (gpSP v0.91 33f1e25) to check if it is due to my outdated version, but to no avail; the Cheat Search isn't starting when activated. I'm not getting any matches.

To be clear: Cheat Search as in: Game>Cheats>Start or Continue Cheat Search>Start or Restart Cheat Search

I tested it on both my devices on another core to be clear (e.g. VBA-M) and there it worked. The search started and I got matches for my search.

That's odd. Cheats were revamped and did work (I tested them myself). Lemme ask some folks...
