Rainbow won't work with the SerialExperimentsLein colorscheme

This is a new colorscheme and rather simple. Link. I tried messing around with their plugin but I couldn't find the cause (turning off matchparens and delimiter doesn't help).

The plugin was working before but now the parens display as in the image. The underlines and blue highlighting are from their plugin, but as I said turning this feature off did not help. I have tested this on .clj, .vim, and .py files and got the same result. If I turn the plugin off with :RainbowToggle the red parens disappear, so I assume that those are the only part of the raibow plugin that are surviving this conflict. What can I do to fix this?
