Periods associated with a linkbase

Is there a way to get the unique TimeContext dates associated with a given linkbase? For example, when I look through the pre_linkbase for an income statement, I can loop through the children to get the abstracts and concepts - that's the Y axis. But is there a way to get the associated periods along the X axis, e.g. 2001-01-01 to 2001-12-31, 2002-01-01 to 2002-12-31? I can get the unique periods for all the child concepts, but that sometimes includes data for periods NOT presented in the actual iIncome Statement presentation.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks so much!
