Open Collective values transparency. Their moto is "raise and spend money with full transparency". The Open Collective + Gateway + PolicyKit integration can advance this value and mission by embedding policy metadata into a collective's admin bot (previously proposed to be "Collective Voice").

Hovering over the Collective Voice admin, a visitor to the collective could see how the community makes decisions about different types of expenses. Here is a mockup of this feature.

This metadata could serve at least four functions:

  1. Potential donors can see if the way that a collective makes decisions about expense approval aligns with their own decision making ideals
  2. Creating an ecosystem of signaling how funds are collective managed, thus establishing norms
  3. Creating a latent discovery mechanism by which people could search for collectives on Open Collective, i.e. I am a user that wants to see all of the collectives who adopt a consensus based approach to expense approval
  4. Offering metadata for people studying different models for collective money management, e.g. a successful open source software organization with 100+ contributors and a certain business model tends to use x, y, or z collective funding model. This is another norm and precedent setting mechanism

From discussion:

  • Or: this feature mostly requires work on OC's end.

Would it make sense to add this as a feature request in OC's repo?
