Tags for multiple versions ?

We currently allow the same tag for more than one version.
This is useful if tags are used to define some status (e.g.: "official yearly release") but if they are used for releases (e.g.: "2010 release") then by error one can have more versions for the same release, that is a nonsense. Should this be left as a responsibility of the user ?
