Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes/No No

I have tried to disable all installed extensions and the terminal will turn back to normal user.

what's weird is that it only happend on one project, the other projects don't have this problem.

  • VS Code Version: 1.96.2
  • OS Version: macOS 11.4

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. login a remote server as root user
  2. kill terminal

it's an old copilot chat windows and the python extensions that somehow causes this problem.
Disable the python extensions and never enable them for this workspace will solve this problem or disable the python extensions first and enable them after open a new chat windows will also do
