reddit extractor only gets recent subset

I noticed when downloading subreddits with lots of posts the reddit extractor seems to only get a recent subset. For example, when downloading reddit.com/r/IcebergCharts, it only goes back to June 2022, while the sub has existed since 2016. I presume that's a Reddit API limitation.
Is there any way to get all the other posts as well?

This is something I've been wanting to bring up for a while. gallery-dl can get every post from every subreddit that ever existed even if stuff was deleted quickly with the pushshift api https://github.com/pushshift/api
They archive everything from every subreddit live and you can search all the way back to the beginning of each one. If gallery-dl adds this you could archive entire subreddits. Even ones that don't exist anymore.
