Possible to automatically download reblog root from reblog link on Tumblr?

Basically the title, I'm assuming this isn't already possible as I did not see anything from the configuration that suggests gallery-dl can be forced to try and download only the root Tumblr post when supplied a reblogged URL. Unless it can be done with a combination of filters and postprocessors?

I would like to see this feature natively, since root posts can be deleted while preserving reblogs a fallback to the supplied URL should be possible.
