Add support for a different integration method and expose at CLI level

It was reported by @AndrewBeers that the use of a different integration method can lead to improved robustness (and increased computation time?) in some situations.

It would be good to add this alternative integration method, expose selection of the integration method at the CLI level, and use the current integration method as default.
