P.S. there is nothing wrong with the MTEX itself, I just fought this is the right community to ask for help. |

Hello,
I am currently working on some rolled FCC steel and am using the measured pole figures to calculate ODFs. I am comparing the ODF sections at φ2 = 0° and 45° with representative maps of components, that can be found in resources such as "Bunge - Texture Analysis in Materials Science" and "Engler - Introduction to Texture Analysis." Additionally, the literature provides representative pole figures for the {111} plane. In the standard coordinate system, the rolling direction (RD) is upward (north) and the transverse direction (TD) is to the left (west). However, in my measurements, the RD direction is to the right (east).
If I use the data as they are (RD to east), I get recalculated pole figures that coincide with the representative ones, although my coordinate system is rotated by 90° (RD to east instead of north). However, the ODF sections do not coincide with the representative ones. Conversely, if I rotate my measured pole figures by 90°, so that my actual RD is in the north direction, the ODF sections match the representative ones. In this case, I get recalculated pole figures rotated when compared to the representative ones. This makes sense, as the rotation of the RD/TD axis by 90° shifts the Bunge φ1 and φ2 angles by 90°. Thus, in the first case, when I do not rotate my data, I get ODF sections at 0°+90° and 45°+90°.
The issue is that when the ODF fits the representative sections, the pole figures do not, and vice versa. This got me thinking: what if someone made a mistake by labeling RD and TD incorrectly in the representative pole figures, and everyone has been copying that designation ever since? I believe rotating my pole figures is correct due to the match of ODF sections with the φ2 = 0° and 45° representative maps of components, but the pole figure coordinate system of the representative pole figures should then be rotated.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or am I missing something?
