I found it. The field where credentials should be entered is empty in my case. Really strange. But seems like there is a problem with this https://github.com/music-assistant/hass-music-assistant/issues/636 Even I can´t find exact content of Request Headers which should be copied. Same problem could be with real Youtube Music username. |

Thank you for more detailed description. I did it. Copied cookies. Entered Youtube User ID which I get from https://www.youtube.com/account_advanced (I hope youtube ID is the same for Youtube Music). Still the same problem: Setup failed of provider ytmusic: '__Secure-3PAPISID' |

Are you guys using brand accounts by any chance? In that case, the login method is a little different (see updated docs). You would have to use your brand account id to login to MA. Otherwise it will just grab data from your main account which might explain why your library is empty |

I solved the problem for me. It might solve your problem too, @andreasbrett I had to log out completly from all my accounts and to do a re-login with only one of them, before I grabed the cookies. Yippiiiiiayeh! Your hint with the account specialities brought me to the solution. Thanx @MarvinSchenkel for your support :) |

Obviously it is difficult to tell but it appears you aren't following @MarvinSchenkel instructions exactly. There is no question Additionally I did ask that you try ALL of the suggestions in the thread above but just in case you missed it one user reported they needed to include ALL of the cookie fields NOT just the part from LOGIN_INFO onwards so please confirm you have tried that. |

Looking at your screenshot, it seems you have copied a piece of your cookie, instead of the whole cookie. You have to copy the whole cookie from the headers tab. Not sure which browser you are using, but in Chrome or Safari there is not even a separate Cookie tab. So I can imagine this is confusing with your browser |

Is there any chance of utilising a higher quality stream with YTM? It looks like anything I play from YTM is 44.1kHz/16bits. |

MA automatically grabs the highest quality available for a certain track. However, I currently do not set the metadata for that track, so you are just seeing default values of 44.1kHz/16bits. I will try to obtain that data from YTM, but their API is a mess, so I am not sure whether it is available :-). @marcelveldt Is this info automatically updated after the analysis of a song? |

YouTube is heavy compressed m4a/aac audio. If you want better quality, you should probably switch to a streaming provider with lossless hires content, like Qobuz, in any way you are not going to get that from YT |

Can someone tell me how to create an automation in HA that will randomly play music from my YT music playlist. Currently I'm able to play from my playlist but it don't randomize it. I did select random setting in YT site from a computer. I do have a premium account. |

Howdy folks, I've managed to get this all logged in but it doesn't function... It controls the devices (i.e. I can hear/see the volumes increasing on the device when I adjust it from HA MA) but it will not play music despite me waiting since 1954.. the year 1954 not the 24hr clock time. But seriously, I've followed the instructions to the best of my ability so I have the developer tools showing the network tab and I filtered for 'browse' which gave about 4 mentions; 1x ctoken and 3x key types. I confirmed there is a 200 reply. However, there is no 'Summary' area that I can see; instead I'm offered "General", "Response Headers" and "Request Headers". I am using MS Edge (Version 105.0.1343.33 (Official build) (64-bit) on Windows 10) I've tried various cookie cut & pastes, some allow me to get logged in whilst others don't. Using the ones that allow log in, none of them allow for playing music - but they do allow control of the device (in my case, my projector and my bedroom nest hub). |

Do you have music added to your YouTube music library? MA syncs your library and allows you to play what you have added to your library. It is_not_ a replacement for the YouTube music app (at least yet ;)). |

Aaaaaaaaaah! I misunderstood the purpose of MAs mission. I thought it would play any old playlist as long as I was subbed to the premium. As above, I have several CDs uploaded - but don't even know where to find them anymore. |

OK, it seems to be solved, now I realise it's only my library I can review... However, it is somehow - bizarrely - playing music I have NOT uploaded nor own. So it seems to be streaming from my premium membership content I have the right to listen to but do not actually own in any format. Nonetheless, I'm a happy chappy now! So THANK YOU all for your help and guidance :D |

As far as I am aware, the cookie should remain valid for a year of so, OR until you logout from the website that you used to capture the cookie. |

Hi. I'm having some problems with Music Assistant in connection with YoutTube Music. Some playlists are not played. Sometimes it takes a long time for the music to start playing. Does anyone know a solution? I haven't had this problem with Spotify yet. |

This is normal behavior for YT Music. Note that Youtube Music does not offer an official API like Spotify. Cases like 'tracks without artists' will occur, because, honestly, their data is a hot mess :-). This warning will not block your sync process. I also updated the main post with a disclaimer! |

I am not sure if anybody can benefit from this: When I was getting an error during the set up with my cookie, I opened a new incognito tab and followed of the process and grabbed the cookie that way. Since then I've had no issue. |

I hate to be that guy, but I cannot get this working. I have tried multiple different cookies, none work. Sometimes it is accepted by the integration and the error clears, however nothing loads. Any ideas? Thanks |

And make sure not to explicitly logout in the YouTube Music app afterwards.
That will invalidate the cookie.

I still get the dreaded __Secure-3PAPISID error. I have two factor on for this account, could that be the issue? I've tried to get my login cookie, have done it many different ways, different browsers, incognito, and it's always the same. I'm using my email address to login but I also have my 21 digit to use if that is required. I'm running HA 2023.1.1 (the latest release available to me) and MA 2022.12.1 (no other works with the current HA) |

Updating from Python from 3.8 to 3.11 fixed it for me. (Stepping through showed 3.8's html cookie regex parser couldn't get through all the keys. Not sure which Python version after 3.8 fixed this.) Hope this helps others. |

My cookie didn't start with LOGIN_INFO but started with CONSENT=PENDING+249........, at first I only copied the part starting with LOGIN_INFO until the end but that didn't work and also gave me the dreaded __Secure-3PAPISID error, I had to copy everything from the start of the cookie to get it to work |

Oauth is just the normal "login with your Google account" you probably have seen at other websites. As for the release, since it's already finished it's a matter of releasing a new beta. Should be soon.. ish |

You need to install the Music Assistant integration from HACS and then the whole Music Assistant collection is browseable on the players provided by the Music Assistant integration. If you only use music assistant to play music to your devices you can even remove those integrations from HA directly to prevent the confusion of duplicated players |

Testing out the current beta version (on a RPI4 4GB). Works great 👍. The only issue I had so far is that playback kinda got stuck after the end of some songs (MA did not progress to the next song). After skipping to the next song manually it was fine again for a while. One thing I noticed is that it does seem to also use videos as a source (there was a video thumbnail as album art in the playback info). Would it be possible to both of these settings can be changed in the web app on https://music.youtube.com. Or does the streaming quality not really matter since MA likely has to re-encode the stream anyways? Thanks. |

a) I'm pretty sure it should already skip videos or at least resolve its album version but @MarvinSchenkel can tell better. b) Atm we always select the highest possible quality and depending on your output settings we have to re-encode, default is lossless flac what we send to the player. |

a) This fully depends on what you are playing. If you have saved a specific album in your library, then that exact version will show up in MA and thus you will have the album version. However, if you start a radio on let's say a playlist, then Youtube Music decides which songs will be played in a 'dynamic radio' playlist which could include videos. b) As an addition to this, I always grab the highest available stream from Youtube Music. Streaming quality definitely matters, as MA cannot magically somehow re-encode a crappy Youtube Music stream to something high quality. Therefore, I always use the highest quality available (similar to you configuring 'high' in the web-app). This then gets re-encoded by MA to a (default) lossless flac, like @marcelveldt already explained. |

I am also facing the same issue. When MA moves to the next track in the queue, MA start playing the next song until the 4th seconds then it restarts over. It seems getting stuck indefinitely. Have you observed the same issue? Any ways to fix it? Thank you for the great work! |

Hey there. I'm using the HACS integration 2023.6.0b3 and successfully connected to my Youtube Premium (not branded) account. MA sees the playlists/artists/etc in my YT library, but it doesn't see my uploaded music (which I access in YouTube Music from within the Library). Does MA not support syncing uploaded media in YT library, or am I encounting a problem? |

As the logs get overwritten unfortunately too quickly go to SETTINGS and the YouTube Provider and do a reload and then check the logs. Then do a synchronise and check the logs. See if you can find anything then. I don't use YT but looking at previous questions similar to this and your screenshot - I see there is a Library tab and an uploads tab. Can you tag your uploads so they also appear in the library tab or is that the case already? |

I don't see a way to do that in YT, neither in the UI nor their settings. Notice there's a "Library" button on the far left in that screenshot: I had to click on "Library" to get to the screen where there is another "Library" button as well as an "Uploads" button, so I assumed that Uploads were a part of the library, but maybe they're not? Also, I noticed I could select my uploaded tracks and add them to a playlist, so I did that for a couple songs and re-synced MA. MA pulled in the new playlist and shows the tracks there, but only shows the tracks in the Browse -> YouTube Music -> Playlists function, not in Browse -> YouTube Music -> Artists/Albums/Tracks. |

Strangely, after a few restarts and resyncs of MA and restarts of HA, MA now sees 11 tracks for my SoundCloud artist, not 9. Still 100s to go - maybe the sync process is continually getting interrupted or something. Also, the "New content is available" icon is visible. Clicking it reloads the list, but there are no new items and the icon remains visible. |

I have a separate question/issue: MA isn't seeing my Google Home Mini's as media players. Using the Google Cast integration, I can use them as media players from within Home Assistant, but MA doesn't see them. I couldn't get auto-discovery to work, so I hardcoded their IP addresses in the Google Cast integration's config, and I suspect that's why MA doesn't see them: they're on a different subnet and I can't get IGMP Proxy to work. Am I on the right track, or might something else be going on? |

MA Beta: When I try to use a brand account after a token was received and I click next, I see "Could not identify the URL for base.js player." alert. When I use normal account (not a brand account) it works fine. Unfortunately - all of my music and playlists are on the brand account, so it is important for me to use this. |

@MarvinSchenkel has in the spiel above that brand accounts should work so not sure about that. I don't use YTM but try and add a second account and see what happens. It works well with other providers so give it a go. |

Authenticate on YouTube music does not work for me. MA server (docker) does not redirect to Google OAuth page for granting access. I get a spinning wheel on clicking the "AUTHENTICATE ON YOUTUBE MUSIC" button. Same issue in both Chrome and Firefox. partial log: |

Features and generic notes
DISCLAIMER
Please note that Youtube does not offer an official API to retrieve data and streams. This means that everything we built is on a best-effort basis. Unexpected behavior will occur whilst using this provider.
Installation instructions MA 2.0
Music Assistant 2.0 adds OAuth support to Youtube Music, which means we can just login like we would on let's say Gmail. To add the Youtube Music provider to MA:
Installation instructions MA 1.X
Youtube Music does not have an official API that can be used to interact with. This means that logging in cannot be done in the same way as you are used to from providers like Spotify or TuneIn radio. You will need a cookie in order to login to Youtube Music. Don't worry, this FAQ explains it all and you will be streaming music in no-time :-).
For the sake of clarity, your Cookie value should look something like this:
Copy everything from start until the end. In this case:
