**AIX is NOT a supported platform**
Nevertheless, we try to make it at least "best effort supported
platform", but so far we have many issues towards that goal.
Full details are tracked in this github issue:
https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog/issues/2597
The rest of this document contains some information that we found so
far and that helps us, and may help you, getting rsyslog to compile
on AIX.
Note: as said in the issue tracke, we do currently NOT have a compile
environment, which is the major stumbling spot on the way to make
rsyslog reliably compile and run under AIX.
Getting an environment
----------------------
IBM provides time-limited virtual boxes via the PDP program after
a company registered as a business partner. Not sure how long they
can actually be used for open source projects.
Setting up an environment
-------------------------
As it looks, AIX supports software installation via a (special?) version
of yum. At the base, it seems to support RPM, which seems to be
preinstalled with the OS.
In theory the script yum.sh from
https://public.dhe.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/ezinstall/ppc/
should install a version of yum. In practice, this does at least not
work on PDP virtual boxes as they seem to have insufficient disk space
and connectivity.
Manual installation should be possible, but on our first try disk space
was far too low to even unpack the tarballs (support request opened, will
update doc once I know better).
See README.AIX.IBM for some build instructions from IBM once you
managed to install yum.
Additional packages are required. We use
http://www.bullfreeware.com/
to get them.
Note: you need to
* manually search for the RPM via the search box
* manually download the RPM
we used only the core rpm without dependencies, this worked
on a system that was current after yum install
* manually install the downloaded rpm vi "rpm -i pkg.rpm"
* we needed these packages:
- flex
- bison
AIX HELP
--------
* extend a FS assuming there is still physical disk space:
# actual commands used in PDP box
chfs -s size=200M /tmp
chfs -a size=4G /home
chfs -a size=3G /opt
chfs -a size=1500M /var
* install yum:
- some step missing....
- have
- do
rpm -i *.rpm
# may bring up already installed packages, if so delete rpm file
until install works
* if something goes wrong with yum update (libintl!), re-install expansion pack
mkdir pkg
cp ../rpm.rte.xxxx .
inutoc .
installp -acFNXYd . rpm.rte
* use "gmake" instead of "make"
