Shorts links on main Site redirecting to other language

Hi, I am trying to set up some short links.

I created a short link field set to "Path Only" and translated for each language. But the path for the short link are always full paths.
I have a multisite setup. My goal is to have short links like mywebsite.de/shortlink that forwards to mywebsite.de/en/the-long-slug
Whenever I change the short link it gets overwritten when I resave my entry.

It's probably better to create a static redirect for that?
