When a project starts up, there are tons of things to do, lots of interconnected functionality, and a lot of decisions to be made that will linger on for a long time. It is really hard to work at different times in the same system. When the system is small, it is almost as if it's a room that is too small. It seems to easy to step on each others code toes.
