I really wanted to like GitLive.
With the change of the organization name here on GitHub, the GitLive installation seemed to be misbehaving, or perhaps not really quite communicating with the VSCode extension I myself had installed.
It seemed reasonable to un- and re-install the Marketplace app here in our GitHub org, and see next about the client extension.
Where before the marketplace app installed straight through, it now requires a trial install with a credit card commitment (our GitHub org has free Team tier for 82 more years, no card was needed), while the Pro tier of GitLive is allegedly Free for open source projects. Hmm.
As well, the current GitLive extension for VSCode (at least the Linux variant) is once again broken, so testing the app re-install is a bit tricky.
End of the day, I myself have installed the LiveShare VSCode Extension as an alternate, which is no guarantee that it will be an improvement, but it seems simpler not having to install an app into the github organization.
Next steps are to try GitLive for its go/no-go status, and compare with LiveShare for pair programming. Since LiveShare sharing can be arranged between individuals (from all appearances) rather than depending on an installed org-side app to manage access and sharing and whatnot, hopefully it will be easier to operate. Hope to find out soon.
