Hi,
So I have tried installing and re-installing yourls but it keeps failing on me.

I keep getting the message:

403 Forbidden
You do not have permission to access this URL. Your request was blocked by the owner of the website.

If you are the owner of the website:
This is NOT a block made by your hosting provider.

The block is manually created by you or by a module/plugin installed on your website.

The problem could also be a missing index file in this folder. File names are case-sensitive.

When? When shortening a URL ? Trying to reach the admin area? etc

I change the .htaccess file to matche the recommendations and now i get 404 error.

See my first answer. There are numerous steps to try, you didn't report the results, hence we cannot help.

You haven't shown any server logs or debug output from YOURLS. Usually if there's a problem with redirections, error logs (PHP or Apache) will contain some info. More, if you enable YOURLS_DEBUG.

The error page you quoted isn't generated by YOURLS, so it doesn't help us.
