What is the use case for on_trial_or_subscribed?

In the subscription documentation it says:

For paid features of your app, you'll often want to check if the user is on trial OR subscribed. You can use this method to check both at once:
@user.payment_processor.on_trial_or_subscribed?

Isn't it true though that trial users are always also considered subscribed (i.e. if on_trial? returns true subscribed? will also return true)?. So if we won't to gate a paid feature couldn't we just use:

@user.payment_processor.subscribed?

Guess I'm just not understanding what the common use cases are for on_trial_or_subscribed?
