difficult to search on front end

I've been having some consistent issues with the species search function. The site remembers your previous searches, which pop up on top of the list of species, making it hard to select a species. Additionally, once you use the search bar once, it won't let you search again unless you reload the page. This is a bit of a pain because you have to re-navigate to the specific region you're interested in. Hopefully these two screenshots help explain what's going on! Maybe it's just a Chrome issue?[
