Convert svg to png

Model diagrams are imported into the editor as svg pictures. When converting them to "Latex format", i would like to convert them to *.png format. This is surprisingly difficult to do:

• The rsvg package is not available in ubuntu 18.04
• The cairosvg package fails with message: "cairo returned CAIRO_STATUS_INVALID_DASH: b'invalid value for a dash setting'"
