Dots in Name Field

I have recently modified the editor such that the name field can contain a dot. Consider now the following internal reference: '... this is reference to cat:domain:name.'. Here it is not clear whether the name field is just 'name' or 'name.'.

In order to avoid this ambiguity. I should stipulate that dots can only appear inside a name field and cannot be the last character of the name field.
