This will require a lot of work, but will provide the following benefits:

Significantly improves the performance of disk-related operations in the installer
Enables detecting, creating, and installing to a wider variety of exotic disk configurations
- FS on LUKS
- LUKS on LVM
- FS on LUKS on LVM on LUKS
Would remove most of the disk-related code from distinst
