No output from tail

Hi, 

I've installed on two servers, both with the same build of PHP.  Both access 
the same shared disk with a log I want to tail, but only one server is actually 
tailing and there are no errors in the log file.  I've logged in on both 
servers as the user that's running the web stack and both can cat the file ok 
(so not a permissions issue).

There are no errors in either PHP logs.
