What is the status of this project? Looks good but inactive - please clarify.

That's unfortunate. It's a great abstraction and a good fit for some concurrency scenarios. I can see it's a lot of work and will need some rethinking - possible minor - re: Java8.

Perfect solution for an imperfect world.

There are some fundamental problems with STM's like starvation. For long(er) running transactions they could run into a situation where will always be rolled back due to shorter transactions causing conflicts.
