Would it be possible to call spacedelim=true internally if the user sets delim to ' '? I feel like this will avoid a lot of people getting frustrated when they don't read the docs fully.

How would you ask for the delimiter literally being the ' ' character? I can see the motivation for this, but it seems like the kind of decision that later becomes a regrettable exceptional case.

As Stefan says, I think we can and should have delim=' ' work, but not like spacedelim=true. Why it doesn't work currently is a bug.
