cmd+F only launches the embdedded search, I have to click on the extension everytime, please help.

Have you tried Cmd+Shift+F? (I can't test it, I'm only on Windows)
The shift modifier is part of the standard shortcut.
Also, I think you should be able to assign your own shortcut in Chrome via chrome://extensions/shortcuts

I'm on MacOS and have the same question. My Chrome (92.0.4515.131 (Official Build) (arm64)) doesn't seem to have the ability to map a shortcut to the extension as is suggested in the README.
