Describe the bug

if you use the browse button to load a path to a SWF file and the path is particularly long, the UI box expands

the reasons I think this is a bug are:

  • the box will expand for long paths, but any future path that is shorter, the box does not retract to smaller (or more likely) original size
  • the box will expand regardless of window size, and can extend beyond the bounds of the window making many elements dissapear offscreen
  • in prior ruffle versions, this was never the case (bug happened around november 2024)
  • if the intention was to make the entire path visible at once, it might show the whole path but instead after a certain point the path is hidden at the edge of the text input area, regardless of window bounds

this is only somewhat alleviated if you maximize the window instead of just using a smaller windowed mode (which I don't usually)

personally, if it not a bug I hope the behavior will be improved, but I prefer the original behavior

I generally don't need to know the whole path to a swf I have just navigated to for the purpose of loading SWFs

Expected behavior

the box should not expand, and should have the original behavior of showing just the end of the path or just the beginning

I noticed this started happening randomly after some version. Perhaps an egui update caused this?

as mentioned it happened sometime nov 2024

I've narrowed it between 2024 nov 27 and 2024 dec 7

I wonder whether emilk/egui#5640 will fix this...
