"Unable to initialize your audio hardware" Error #580

Running Dosbox Pure 1.0 Preview 1 under RetroArch 1.20 on Ubuntu 22.04. When trying to run certain Sierra games, I get the error "Unable to initialize your audio hardware". From poking around online, this seems to be a known issue with Sierra games in Dosbox, but I'm unsure how to apply the suggested fixes in the context of Dosbox Pure and RetroArch. Any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks!
