It would be useful to have onboard scene lighting and the ability to control onboard / external lighting from the UI.
The reason why I'm mentioning this is I'm planning on building the CinePI to replace my old Cannon 1080p Camcorder and hopefully make some development contributions to the project.

The GPIOs are, for the most part, spoken for. I'd suggest, for the purposes of keeping things clean, that this be a service that can be accessed on the CinePi, but managed on a separate board running a new project, named something like "LumiPi". In the cinepi settings you can set up a LumiPi host or do local discovery or something. For the sake of not muddying the "we're making a camera" mission statement, I'd say the world of DALI, DMX, 0-10V etc. should have it's own wheelhouse.
