Jesus was probably never married to a woman while He was here on Earth in the flesh

  • Luke 20:33-36 - In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife. And Jesus said to them, The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
  • Matthew 19:12: For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.

The fullness of the promise given to Abram/Abraham comes after his death

  • Hebrews 11:39: And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised,
  • Hebrews 11:40: because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

  • Matthew 26:29: I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
  • Mark 14:25: Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
  • Luke 22:18: For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

Jesus is firstborn of the dead

  • Matthew 22:30: For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
  • Mark 12:25: For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

  • Colossians 1:18: And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.
  • Revelation of John 1:5: and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood

But He is married/to be married to His bride, the Church.

  • Matthew 9:15: And Jesus said to them, Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
  • Matthew 25:1: Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.
  • Matthew 25:5: As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.
  • Matthew 25:6: But at midnight there was a cry, Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.
  • Matthew 25:10: And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.
  • Mark 2:19: And Jesus said to them, Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
  • Mark 2:20: The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.
  • Luke 5:34: And Jesus said to them, Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
  • Luke 5:35: The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.
  • John 2:9: When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom
  • John 3:29: The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.
  • Revelation of John 18:23: and the light of a lamp will shine in you no more, and the voice of bridegroom and bride will be heard in you no more, for your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.
  • Revelation of John 19:7: Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;
  • Revelation of John 21:2: And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
  • Revelation of John 21:9: Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.
  • Revelation of John 22:17: The Spirit and the Bride say, Come. And let the one who hears say, Come. And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.

What about us?

Sometimes this applies

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

  • Luke 14:16: But he said to him, A man once gave a great banquet and invited many.
  • Luke 14:17: And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, Come, for everything is now ready.
  • Luke 14:18: But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.
  • Luke 14:19: And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.
  • Luke 14:20: And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
  • Luke 14:21: So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.
  • Luke 14:22: And the servant said, Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.
  • Luke 14:23: And the master said to the servant, Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.
  • Luke 14:24: For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.
  • Luke 14:25: Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them,
  • Luke 14:26: If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
  • Luke 14:27: Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
