自由不是为所欲为的权利,而是做你所珍视的事业。
人生不是一场通往终点线的比赛。它不是比赛,没有金牌。将你的生命能量引导到你最珍视的,能给你带来最深切的快乐的事情上就是胜利。
自由是行动的自由,但我们不能摆脱我们的行为带来的好的或坏的结果。我看着乔丹从他过去不喜欢的生活中逐渐成熟起来,他已经意识到“没有人是一座与世隔绝的孤岛”。
我们会把生活里发生的故事诠释得可以接受,或更好,或神奇,或神秘。

我接诊的每个患者都有自己的故事。但是,当一个人被诊断出绝症,对死亡的恐惧从可能变成确定时,有一件不同寻常的事情会经常发生:那些关于身份、工作和金钱的保护通常会瓦解,让一个人非常清楚自己是谁,自己爱什么,以及什么才是真正重要的。
这并不意味着对患者、他们的亲人或他们的护理人员来说,临终关怀是容易的。而我观察到的是,对很多人来说,死亡既是惩罚也是解脱。当死亡变得确定时,就像脖子上的钳子被松开了,关注点从对失去的恐惧转移到仍然可以获得和体验上。
这时,人们通常第一次关注自己内心的真实愿望。
金钱并不是唯一可以实现复利的东西。体验可以实现复利,我们投入对世界的探索中的时间和精力可以实现复利,知识可以实现复利,幸福也可以实现复利。
从生命的起点而不是尾声开始追随自己的内心,这对自己是一份多么大的礼物——在为时已晚之前领悟生命的意义。追求财富和金钱不应该以牺牲生命中重要的东西为代价,恰恰相反,它应该在这段最重要的人生旅程中起辅助作用。
