Thanks for pointing this out! I really appreciate it.

For my future reference from the linked documentation:

$XDG_DATA_HOME defines the base directory relative to which user-specific data files should be stored. If $XDG_DATA_HOME is either not set or empty, a default equal to $HOME/.local/share should be used.

A quick peruse of the script suggests that we can change it by modifying these path settings:

BUILD="$HOME/ttfautohint-build"
INST="$BUILD/local"
