".xls spreadsheets" is in the list of possible formats for SPDX documents, but is not specified.

We should at minimum:

  • give the list of tabs with their name,
  • for each tab, give the list of columns with their name.

Best would be to use what is implemented in the online conversion tool.

Also, we should allow .xls, .xlsx and .ods (ISO/IEC 26300 OpenDocument) instead of only .xls.

@vargenau Agree this should be specified.

I don't know if there is time to get this into 2.3 since we're pretty much finalizing the changes. @kestewart any opinions on getting this in?

For the formats, the SPDX translation tools currently support .xls and .xlsx but does not support .ods. We could document support of .xlsx immediately. I'm also OK documenting support for .ods and just calling the issue a bug for the tools.

I just added this issue to the tools-java to request adding that format (the tools-java code is used by the online-tools).

We didn't have any volunteer to document this for 2.3, so moving this to 3.0.

Moving to 3.1 in case we decide we want to support a spreadsheet format.
