I see that 1.6.0 is still latest tag, even though it is years old. I am on Arch and it's arduino-mk still points to 1.6.0. My question is simply, should I try using that old version (Teensy 4.1, Seeduino XIAO), or should I figure how to use the repo directly? I suppose, question on the side, why not make new tag/release?

Definitely use the master branch of the repo, not the version release; all the SAMD stuff and lots of Python support etc. is missing from 1.6.
We absolutely need a new release since many issues created are due to people using a package managed version and so old code. There was a push last year but seems to have faded. Any chance of a 1.7.0 @sudar ?
