White 'block' blocking everything

Describe the bug
Whenever I start typing out the code for my projects, there appears a small spinning [loading] circle on top right in the editor. after it dissapears, a white layers covers the whole screen[transparent] and then i simply cannot type. i have to tap for it to go away. but it always shows up.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to a AndroidX project
2. Click on any code file
3. edit or type stuff there
4. wait a few seconds

Expected behavior
I expected that i would write the code and it would just all go smooth.
