Problems with Silverstripe public folder

I'm getting broken images and failed loads of javascript files when using Silverstripes' public folder structure. For example, the admin tries to load the file http://[domain]/resources/betterbuttons/javascript/gridfield_betterbuttons.js, but this file does not exist in this location, but in the betterbuttons folder located at the project root, which isn't accessible, since it's on the same level as the public folder.

The same goes for http://[domain]/betterbuttons/images/prev.png, which of course fails, since there is not betterbuttons folder in the root of the public folder.
