We currently allow declaring variables with let, e.g.: let x: int

This is mainly so it can be used in for loops.

Either:

  1. Do not allow this
  2. Infer a default type

With 2) let z: int can transpile to x = 0, we'd need good defaults as in Go, sounds doable.
