This might take hundreds of hours to complete. But here are some of my thoughts on the project and how I can make it better.

Port to Python3 and maybe make it as default.
Cleanup codebase and write better documentation and tests
Make it more approachable for the newbies to come and contribute to the code. The current code is quite dense.
I expect the community to come and help with this at some time as most of the new issues on the project are demanding feature and none to help.
