<p>O <strong>Science Pulse</strong> é um projeto liderado pelo ICFJ Knight Fellow Sérgio Spagnuolo em colaboração com o <a href="https://voltdata.info">Volt Data Lab</a>, agência de dados fundada por ele em São Paulo. Cientistas e jornalistas possuem uma história de colaboração. Mas, em um momento no qual as mídias sociais criam suas próprias bolhas, difíceis de superar, às vezes uma ponte é necessária entre as conversas acontecendo dos dois lados. Jornalistas podem se beneficiar muito de saber o que cientistas e especialistas estão compartilhando em redes sociais.
O Science Pulse quer ser esta ponte. Em uma época na qual o conhecimento científico está em grande demanda, há também grandes desafios acerca de como pesquisas e trabalhos acadêmicos e resultados preliminares são comunicados. Dados, conclusões e decisões podem mudar rapidamente.
Além disso, é difícil acompanhar tudo o que se passa nas redes sociais hoje em dia, e mais difícil ainda seguir centenas ou milhares de novos perfis, mesmo que estejamos interessados no que eles têm a dizer. E, mesmo seguindo todos esses novos perfis, boa parte das mensagens que eles vão passar ficarão perdidas entre outras publicações.
É por isso que decidimos fazer uma ferramenta que pode aumentar a descoberta em torno da conversa científica que acontece agora nas redes sociais, especialmente no contexto da pandemia de coronavírus. É uma forma de aumentar nosso conhecimento, assim como filtrar boa parte do ruído. Daremos espaço para cientistas e especialistas, muitos dos quais são brilhantes em seus campos, mas que não se destacam nas redes sociais.
Science Pulse is a project led by ICFJ Knight Fellow Sérgio Spagnuolo in collaboration with Volt Data Lab, a data-driven news agency he founded in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is supported by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and by the Brazilian science journalism agency Bori.

<h3 id="why-is-this-relevant-">WHY IS THIS RELEVANT?</h3>
<p>Scientists and journalists have a longstanding record of collaboration. But, as social media creates its own hard-to burst bubbles, sometimes a bridge is necessary to bring awareness about each other's conversations. Journalists can benefit a lot from knowing what scientists and experts are sharing on social media.</p>
<p>The <strong>Science Pulse</strong> wants to be that bridge. In a time where scientific knowledge is in great demand, there are also great challenges around the way academic papers and preliminary conclusions are communicated. Data, conclusions and decisions can change fast.</p>
<p>It is hard to keep up with all social media has to offer nowadays, and even harder to follow hundreds of new people, even if you are interested in what they have to say. And even if you do follow them, some messages will be buried amongst hundreds of other posts and trending topics.</p>
<p>That is why we decided to make a tool to increase the discovery around the scientific conversation on social media, especially regarding the coronavirus pandemic. It is a way to increase knowledge but also leave some noise out of social media. We will give room for people that are brilliant in their fields, but might not have thousands of followers to engage.</p>
