Is it possible to react on mqtt device triggers?

Thank you. The device node works well but does not fit in my setup. I want to react to button-pressed events of my hue dimmers. My setup was to monitor any button-pressed event, look up the assigned area of the hue dimmer, and then control the lights in this area. With the device node, I need to hardcode each device ID and copy-paste the node for every hue dimmer I have.

Do you happen to have any ideas for a solution?

1. I don’t use Hue devices, but I have a generic Zigbee button. I listen to its events using an MQTT In node subscribed to the topic zigbee2mqtt/Bedroom Button, and handle actions based on those events.

2. Another option is leveraging the new events entities in Home Assistant, as described in your link under the device triggers section. You can use an Events: State node for this.

3. You can also try connecting an Events: All node to a Debug node, then click the button to check if any events come through for the Hue devices. From there, narrow down the event types and filter based on the provided data.

I also don't use any hub or bridge but Zigbee2MQTT.

1. I think this is the fastest approach but how to tell which area is assigned in HA in order to turn on all lights in the area where the button is located?

   At the end I will just listen to state changes like before. Before z2m v2 it was a sensor entity. Now it is an event entity.

3. Can be ignored because z2m is not sending events I could react on.

Yes, there's no straightforward way to reference a Zigbee2MQTT message to a Home Assistant entity directly. You'll need to map each button to its corresponding area manually. You could simplify the below flow with a function node or a map node but it's basically do the same thing just with fewer nodes.

My fault, what I meant is: How to tell which area is assigned in HA in order to turn on all lights in the area where the button is located without hardcoding button name/mqtt topic and area name? I don't expect a solution, as I think that the best way to solve this is to cache HA areas and which button topic belongs to which area.
