Taskbar extension fills up syslog with CLUTTER_IS_LAYOUT_MANAGER messages

• standard Debian stretch running gnome-shell 3.22.3-3
• journalctl -f shows huge amount of:

gnome-shell[8047]: clutter_layout_manager_get_child_meta: assertion 'CLUTTER_IS_LAYOUT_MANAGER (manager)' failed
gnome-shell[8047]: g_object_set: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
gnome-shell[8047]: g_object_set: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

• Alt+F2 and r will fix problem temporarily (maybe until monitor configuration changes?)
• recommendation so far have been 'bad extension, uninstall'

Yeah, this is a real issue in gnome-shell.
There are lots of bug reports about it (even on gnome-shell's gitlab) but no answers for now.
