Classroom Interaction

With inquire, classroom interaction has never been easier. Inquire provides four different types of posts for students and instructors to use: General Posts, Questions, Announcements, and Polls. These four posts all have a different color associated with them so they're easy to differentiate; General Posts are grey, Questions are blue, Announcements are orange, and Polls are green. Students and instructors can also comment and reply on any of these types of posts, making interaction flexible and easy to attain.

This documentation will describe how to utilize the classroom interaction tools provided to users with Inquire.

General Posts, Questions, and Announcements

General Posts, Questions, and Announcements all behave almost identically on Inquire. To draft any of these post types, first navigate to the course you want to create the General Post/Question/Announcement in. Once you're in the post feed section, click the "Draft Post" button located in the options panel on the right side of the screen (the button circled in the image below).

draft post button

This button should take you to the draft area for General Posts, Questions, and Announcements (like shown in the image below). This draft area defaults to General Posts. If you want to make a Question or an Announcement instead, click the appropriate button located at the top of the draft area (circled in the image below), and vice versa for switching back to a General Post.

Once you've selected either General Post, Question, or Announcement, you simply give your post a title and content and then you can submit it. View the documentation on the markdown editor to find out more on how to draft your content.

Polls

To create Polls, first navigate to the course you want to create the Poll in. Once you're on the post feed for that course, click the "Draft Poll" button in the options panel on the right hand side of the screen (circled in the image below).

draft poll button

This button should take you to the draft area for Polls (like shown in the image below). The draft area for Polls has two key components: Poll title and Poll options. The Poll title is the statement or question you want people in your class to reply to. The Poll options are the answers you provide the class to choose from. To add more options, click the "Add a New Option" button (circled in red below). To remove an option, click the red "x" button located on the far right of the option you wish to delete (circled in blue below).

Anonymous and Private Posting

There are two additional ways to modify posts in Inquire: anonymous posting and private posting. Anonymous posting allows users to create their post without showing any type of personal identifier. Private posting makes it so only those with permissions to view private posts in your class can see the post you make. Private posting is not allowed for Polls since Polls need to be public in order for people to contribute to them.

To make a post anonymous, click the "Make Anonymous" button located at the bottom of the draft area for any type of post (circled in red in the image below). Similarly, to make a post private, click the "Make Private" button located at the bottom of the draft area for General Posts, Questions and Announcements (circled in blue in the image below).

anonymous and private

Note that it is possible to make your post both anonymous and private by clicking both the "Make Anonymous" and "Make Private" buttons before you submit.

Customization for Instructors

Don't want students to be able to post anonymously or privately? No problem. View the documentation on user roles to see how to update permissions for students/TAs.
